Tomorrow, I finally get to take part in the Disney Traditions course to OFFICIALLY become a cast member of Walt Disney World! I can't tell you how long that I have hoped and wished and DREAMED to wear a cast member badge - and tomorrow, I officially get one of my very own.
To describe this feeling, I'll have to explain a bit of why I am here in Orlando.
When I was in high school, I found out about a program called the Disney College Program. Being that I have visited Disneyland every year since I was 12, religiously wore Disney princess costumes each Halloween as a child, and can belt If You Wish Upon a Star on command, you can imagine that I was pretty ecstatic to find out about this program.
My senior year in high school, I had it all planned out. I was going to get one semester of college down, and then I would immediately apply for the program. As one thing led to another, I ended up never applying. I was still Disney obsessed as ever, but I felt discouraged about my chances of getting in. I didn't feel ready to apply, so I shifted my focus to other opportunities. My gut was telling me that it wasn't time for me to apply yet, so I listened to that instinct.
However, after entering sophomore year of college, I was filled with so much confidence and empowerment from my Smithsonian internship. I was dreaming and dreaming and dreaming of wearing a cast member badge. I have loved the Disney company indescribably for my entire life, and I finally felt ready to apply for the program.
The words to explain how I felt after receiving my congratulations letter will never be deep enough, real enough, or happy enough to describe that feeling. Sitting here in Orlando, it feels like an entire lifetime of loving Disney has led me here - ready to help make magic for other families.
Be prepared for the amount of photos I will take of me holding my cast member badge, because I don't think I will ever be over that excitement of receiving it tomorrow!
As of today, I have officially spent one night as a temporary resident of Orlando - complete with a full on monsoon, intense sunshine, and humidity you can cut with a butter knife.
I'll admit that I was completely terrified. Just like my internship this past summer, I was so scared of the unknown. How would move in work? Where would I be working? Could I find my way to casting? However, I made sure to go in with a positive attitude, and I was excited to get started!
After meeting my new roommates, moving into my apartment, and finding out my work location, I am so ready to see what this summer has in store!
I found out that I will be working at Storybook Circus in Fantasyland at the Magic Kingdom! Although I have not been to the Magic Kingdom since I was four, I absolutely love Fantasyland at Disneyland - so you can imagine how excited I was to learn that this would be my working location ALL SUMMER!
I'll keep ya updated as I go through the process and finally get to start work!
See ya real soon
Old soul, new energy. Dreamer. Wisher.
